 CORN PLA CUPS, STRAWS, DELI CONTAINERS 

*NOTE ALL CORN PRODUCTS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR COLD FOOD ONLY* (FOODS BELOW 110-135F). PLEASE STORE IN A COOL, DRY PLACE AWAY FROM DIRECT SUNLIGHT. 

Q) Why buy corn plastics? 
A) Numerous reasons. They are renewable, sustainable and compostable to name a few. 

Q) Can I eat them? 
A) No 

Q) How is it made? 
A) Corn is processed into corn sugar (dextrose). The dextrose is fermented and turned into lactic acid. The lactic acid is transformed into pellets (PLA) 

Q) What is PLA? 
A) It stands for polylactic acid 

Q) Can the corn products be recycled? 
A) Yes they can make up 1-10% of the plastics that get recycled. However they can also be composted unlike petroleum derived products. 

Q) How long does it take for these corn products to compost? 
A) Commercial composter 45-60+ days

Q) Will these products degrade on a store shelf? 
A) No. If stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight they have a shelf-life similar to plastic.

Q) Will they compost/biodegrade in a landfill? 
A) No. Landfills are designed to have no anaerobic activity in them thus permitting them from decomposing.

Q) If they're ending up in a landfill anyway why buy them? 
A) These products are made to be commercially composted. If no facility exists in your area, these cups and containers still reduce greenhouse gasses and the use of petroleum comparared to their non-compostable plastic counterparts. In addition if waste to energy facilities are used for incinerating garbage, these bioplastics burn "cleaner" than plastics.


VEGETABLE STARCH CUTLERY FAQ’S 

Q) Can I eat them? 
A) No 

Q) What are the heat limitations of the products? 
A) They are able to withstand temperatures up to 200F 

Q) What are they made from? 
A) They are made from a GMO-free vegetable starch. 

COMPOSTABLE HOT CUP/SOUP CONTAINER FAQ’S 

Q) What makes these cups/soup containers so special? 
A) Most cups/bowls are sprayed with a petroleum based liner. These cups are sprayed with a corn based liner making them fully compostable.

Q) Why was it invented? 
A) The first coffee cup prototypes were actually developed for the US navy because so many cups were flying overboard.

Q) Does it work as well as a conventional cup/bowl? 
A) Yes 

Q) How long does it take to compost? 
A) About 60 days in a commercial composter. 

BAGASSE (SUGAR CANE) PRODUCTS FAQ 

Q) How are bagasse products made? 
A) After the sugar is extracted from the sugar cane, the leftover stalk is turned into pulp. The pulp is then molded at high heat into various products. 

Q) Can they be used for hot foods? 
A) Yes they are able to withstand temperatures of -13C to over 200C. They are also microwavable and freezer safe. 

Q) Why should we buy bagasse products? 
A) Before being manufactured into these products, the leftover pulp used to be landfilled or incinerated. In addition it saves digging the earth for petroleum disposables and it saves trees being cut down for paper disposables. 

Q) How long do they take to compost? 
A) In a commercial composter it will take 30-60 days to biodegrade. In a home composter it can take up to 90 days.

Q) What are bioplastics? 
A) Bioplastics are biodegradable or compostable plastics that are made from renewable raw materials. Materials include corn starch, cassava, hemp, potato starch, soy beans etc. 

Q) Why is it called the Renewsus Store? 
A) It stands for ½ Renewable and ½ Sustainable. 

Q) Will you be offering more products in the future? 
A) Of course. The future is truly unlimited with bioplastics.

A) The Renewsus Store is located in Vancouver, B.C. Canada 

Q) What does your logo mean? 
A) Well you’ve got the “I” composting through the “B” like the compostabilty/biodegradability of these products. You’ve got the “BIO” for biodegradable and “BIO” for bioplastics. The four arrows surrounding the logo represent the four R’s. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and the brand new fourth arrow…….Renewable (unlike petroleum based products.)
